Workforce 2010

How You Can Help

Document Actions
What can you do to:
  • Attract more people to the workforce?
  • Promote education and training?
  • Overcome turnover and increase retention?
  • Increase public awareness?

What can you do personally to address these challenges and be part of the solution?

Here are some suggestions.

Individuals with Disabilities and Families

Individuals with disabilities and families are the heart of the work done by the community rehabilitation workforce. They, most of all, have the ability to keep and attract people to chose to work in this field for their lifetime.

Provide testimonials about the role played by paid support in your life can provide powerful messages to the public, people who do this work and people who might choose this as their career.

If you have a story to tell about support staff in your life, send it to us at aarc@albertarehab.org.

People in the Workforce

Talk about the work you do and the skills required.  Talk about why you do it and what it gives both to you and your community.  Build a proud tradition about the importance of the work.

Do you want to get involved in the action?  Look at the Activities Underway section.  Contact the people on the committees.  Build a network people who are trying to make a difference in the labour market issues we face.  See if there is a committee where you might be able to contribute your talents.

Leaders, Influencers and Allies

How can you influence the thinking of people in your sphere of influence to develop an understanding of the essential role this workforce has in the quality of life in Alberta for all citizens?

Ask Workforce 2010 committee members to talk about their work on the different projects and share information with you and others.
